Twenty three rejections and counting
I was recently reading an old post of mine (which is a super normal thing to do 😆) wherein I mused how important it is to share your struggles because it can help someone else...like, a lot. So in that spirit, I thought I'd share some "statistics" about the circle of hell that has been my job hunting and interview failures over the last six months or so.
- Opportunities where I've gotten to the final round, but failed to land the role: 4
- Opportunities where I talked to a recruiter, but didn't get past that: 4
- Opportunities where I applied and was rejected or ghosted (ongoing): 15
Yes, I've been rejected TWENTY THREE times. So trust me when I say I know how many of you are feeling as we tumble through the seemingly endless cycle of hope, frustration, optimism, anger, gratitude, shame, dreaming, and failing.
To be clear, I'm not disparaging any of the companies where I've applied. I'm the one failing the interviews and that's (at least partially) on me. In fact it's quite the opposite – I applied to these places very much because I thought the roles sounded interesting and I could see myself working there.
Instead, despite how embarrassing it is to quantify my failures, I'm doing this in the hopes that some of you out there will find at least a little solace knowing that you're definitely not alone. Job hunting in 2025 is HARD.
